Volume Profile indicator

See where the most trading happened in the session — the point of control (POC) and the 70% value area — plus yesterday's value area and the earlier POCs price hasn't revisited yet.

What it draws

  • Developing session profile on the right edge with POC, value-area high (VAH) and low (VAL)
  • Prior regular-session value area: yPOC, yVAH, yVAL
  • Naked POCs: earlier sessions' POCs that disappear once a later bar trades through them
  • Low-volume nodes highlighted as thin areas of the profile
  • Adjustable row size (ticks per row) and value-area percentage

How it works

Each completed bar's volume is spread evenly across the price range it covers, then summed per price row.

The value area expands outward from the POC until it holds 70% of the session's volume.

A POC becomes 'naked' when its session ends and stays on the chart until price trades back through it.

Good to know

  • Built from chart bars, so it works on any symbol and any amount of history without a tick-data feed. On 1- to 5-minute charts it closely tracks a tick-based profile.
  • Value-area levels are strongest as confluence (a reason to take a setup you already like) rather than as a stand-alone signal.

Questions

What is a naked POC?

A point of control from an earlier session that price has not traded back to. Many traders treat it as a magnet. The indicator removes it as soon as a later bar trades through it.

Can I use it instead of the built-in profile?

Yes. It includes the session profile, so on platforms that limit indicators per chart it can replace a separate profile indicator.
